Hudsonville Loses to Oxford in the Quarterfinals of the State Wrestling Tournament

Team State 2016
The Eagles looked to extend their storied season by squaring off against the Oxford Wildcats at the Team State Quarterfinals on the campus of Central Michigan University.  The dual started at the 171 weight class.  Oxford narrowly won two decisions at #171 and #189.  Oxford then took a third weight class at #215 putting them up 12-0 until Junior Lane Potter #285 pinned his opponent closing the gap to 12-6.  The Eagles took the next two weight classes at #103 with Freshman Jack Samuels winning by major decision and #112 Freshman James Samuels pinning his opponent.  At this point in the dual, the Eagles held a 16-12 lead.  Oxford then won at weight classes #119 and #125 taking the lead 24-16.  Senior Austin Fine #130 took the mat and won a decision closing the lead to 24-19. Oxford regained control of the match winning weight classes #135 and #140 pushing their lead to 34-19. Senior Kolby Kempker #145 slowed the momentum winning a decision, yet the Eagles still trailed 34-22.  Oxford sealed the victory with a win at #152 making the score 40-22.  Senior Brenden DeVries #160 closed out the dual with a pin. The final score read Oxford 40 – Hudsonville 28.
Final dual record for 2015-2016 Eagles was 26-6!  All parents and supporters of the Hudsonville Wrestling Program are proud of all of the team and individual accomplishments this year!  In addition, a heartfelt thank you to all of the coaches that have worked long hours both in season and out of season with our student athletes.
