Game Recap

The Eagles Hockey team completed a sweep of the weekend with a 6-5 win over East Lansing Stars at Suburban Ice Arena. It took the Eagles a period for their bus legs to leave them before they would get going. The Eagles trailed 2-0 after one period and were out shot 10-8. The second period would be different with the Eagles out shooting the Stars, 19-4 and scoring two goals. Jack Beltz assisted by Thadd Waalkes and Nate McDaid assisted by Beltz, The third period would definitely have it’s excitement. The Stars would go up 3-2 with nine minutes left. The Eagles would tie the game a minute later with McDaid’s second, assisted by Cy Doerr. Two minutes after that, Beltz would get his second, a shorthanded goal unassisted to take a one goal lead. One minute later the Stars would tie the game, and then with only 3 minutes left the Stars would take the lead 5-4. The Eagles would not be denied, with an extra attacker and 20 seconds left the Eagles would win the face off in the Star’s zone, Beltz would pass to Will Ford who shot from the blue line and Thadd Waalkes was there to put in the rebound, so overtime was up next!!. Only a minute into overtime and Cy Doerr made a 40 foot pass cross ice to Parker Selders streaking down the left side and beat the goalie top shelf with a wrist shot to the far side. The Eagles bench cleared as they mobbed Selders at the end of the rink!!! Cam Griep faced 34 shots in the win. The Eagles will face Grand Haven on Wednesday, 2-15-17 at Lakeshore Ice Arena with a chance to keep their league title goal in sight. Come out and cheer on the Eagles who have now won five of their last six games!!
