After losing to Grandville by a score of 22-7 the Hudsonville football team now has to wait to see and see if they will qualify for the playoffs. This could potentially be the first time in OK Conference history that 5 teams could make the playoffs in a 6 team conference. East Kentwood and Rockford shared the OK Red conference championship by winning last night and will be automatic qualifiers in the playoffs. West Ottawa, Grandville and Hudsonville finished at 5-4 and will have to wait. The MHSAA currently has West Ottawa with 68.22 playoff points which puts them ahead of Grandville (65.00 playoff points) and Hudsonville (62.00 points). Hudsonville is currently ranked as the #6 5-4 team based on playoff points in Division 1 according to the MHSAA. Snooze2you.com thinks there could be up to seven 5-4 teams in Division 1.
This is where it becomes interesting. According to Snooze2you.com with so many 5-4 teams on the west side of the state the OK Red will be put into two different regions. With Howell getting knocked out of the playoffs last night has now opened the door for two OK Red schools to move into the Lansing district. East Kentwood is predicted to go to the Lansing area with Grandville as the one and four seeds respectively. They would then play against each other in the first round.
This leaves the Lakeshore teams and northern schools filling out a region. Rockford is predicted as the one seed, West Ottawa the two seed, Traverse City West three seed and Hudsonville would be the 4th seed. This means Hudsonville would travel to Rockford next week to take on the Rams in the first round.
Remember these are only predictions and a lot can change with some schools playing games today. One school moving divisions could throw off the whole thing as well. The picture will be a lot clearer tomorrow night after the selection show takes place on Fox Sports Detroit (7PM).
