The Hudsonville girls bowlers advanced to the state finals for the 5th year in a row winning the schools first Division 1 Regional title at Starlite Lanes. After falling to 4th place after the baker games, the Eagles stormed back rolling a 961 team game. “We had a goal to average 170 in the 6 baker games to stay in the hunt. Unfortunately, that put us in a hole, but we knew with our team depth we could catch the teams in front of us,” added coach Casey Schichtel. The girls battled back with one of our highest team games of the year to move into 2nd place. The 961 team game included Jade Bentley 201, Mackenzie Lyons 195, Darby Spears 188, Bailey Gulch 201, and Kaleigh DeJongh 176. After struggling in the second team game, Hudsonville dropped to third place holding onto a 42 pin lead over Zeeland. “Going into the third game, our mentality was to stay ahead of Zeeland to be able to make state by finishing in third. We controlled our own destiny” added Schichtel. Then, the girls caught fire. The girls responded by not only defeating Zeeland, but also passing Grand Haven and Caledonia to take home the title. Senior bowler Bailey Gulch led the team with a 614 series followed by Mackenzie Lyons with a 569. The girls travel back to Grand Haven tomorrow to take part in singles where the top 10 bowlers advance to the state finals.
