Hudsonville runners Melanie Helder and Derek Sanchez were the lone medalist at the MSU cross country meet Friday. Melanie competed in Spartan Elite girls race and place 23rd with a time of 19:06. The team placed 15th overall. Derek placed 20th competing in the Green Division 1 & 2 race with a time of 17:07.
The Hudsonville JV girls placed 8 girls in the top 25 on Saturday’s race at the Sparta Invitational right behind Rockford. This allowed the girls to bring home medals and a 2nd place trophy. The first race of the day, cold, wet and windy, proved a challenge for many but the Eagles prevailed through it all. Elaine Nibbelink and newcomer Reganne Schihl lead the Eagles with a 3rd and 4th place finish respectively. The Eagles had a strong pack that followed: Anna Haseley, Emily VanDyken, Esmee Kuipers, Cara Beld, Aliya Elenbaas, Gabby Moore. Great job ladies.
Noah Keillor and Riley Groot were the lone JV boy runners who also medaled. Noah ran a consistent race placing 8th overall with a time of 19: 25 on a slow course. Riley placed 15th with a time of 19:42.
Both JV squads are looking stronger each race.
