Eagles Freshman outlast Rockford in high-scoring affair, 14-8
The bats were busy at Hudsonville on Thursday, and when the dust cleared the Hudsonville Eagles (7-0) had a 14-8 win over Rockford in seven innings. The teams totaled 19 hits in the game and traded runs for most of the contest, leading to nine lead changes in the game. The Hudsonville Eagles Freshman were sparked by Carney and Marcus Kachur, who teamed up for seven hits and four RBIs. The Hudsonville Eagles Freshman pushed across one run in both the second inning and the fifth. In the second, the Eagles scored on a fielder’s choice.
The offense exploded for the the Eagles in the sixth when their bats caught fire leading to nine runs. The scoring was started by a two-run single by Marcus Kachur followed by an RBI single by Brendan Ham. These were followed up by an RBI single by Payton Carney and capped by a sacrifice fly by Marcus Mesman.
Carney got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. He allowed two runs over 1 1/3 innings. He struck out none, walked three and surrendered two hits.
