Byron Center High School
Hudsonville High School
Eagle Seniors go out on top with a 4-3 win over Byron Center in their last regular season game in front of a packed house at Georgetown. The evening started with Hudsonville seniors and their parents being recognized. Jared Baas, Nate McDaid, and Dylan DeVree. All three played three years of varsity hockey and will be truly missed as they graduate and move on with the next stage in their lives. The pregame festivities were not completed as the Baldwin Street Middle School 6th grade choir sang the national Anthem, which has become a tradition the last home hockey game, and what a beautiful job they did.
Then it was time to play a hockey game!! The Eagles would trail after the first, 1-0 as Byron Center would score a shorthanded goal. The Eagles and Byron Center would exchange goals in the second period. The Eagles would score three, one by Nate McDaid and two from Thadd Waalkes. McDaid would get two assists, while Jack Beltz would add three, and Austin Terpstra one. At the end of two the game was tied 3-3.
The third period was back and forth and the Eagles looked in trouble after a penalty late in the 3rd period. The Eagles penalty killer, Quinten DeMyer would pick off a pass on the blue line and create a breakaway on the Byron Center goalie, and finish the play with a goal to take a 4-3 lead with only 3:18 left in the game.
The Eagles would hang on in the final seconds down a player and playing 4 on 6. Cam Griep was solid in goal for the Eagles making 29 saves.
The Eagles would like to thank all the fans that supported them all season, as the house was packed on several occasions cheering as we ended the regular season with the 4th best record in School History, 16-9. However the season is not over as we enter the playoff season. Please continue to show the support as the Eagles will face the winner of Byron Center and West Ottawa, next Thursday, March 1st 7:30 PM at Georgetown. Thank you Seniors and Go Eagles!!!
