The HHS Women’s Water Polo visited Rockford for the West District 1 Tournament. Since the Eagles were seeded 1st in the District they had a bye on Friday evening.
In their first District game the Eagles faced Zeeland. The Eagles dominated the game in the first half both offensively and defensively. They completed the first half with a score of 17-1. Since the were leading by more than 10 points, each quarter in the second half was shortened. The Eagles continued strong team play and finished the game 20-2.
Leading the goals for the team were Alaina Lubbers (6), Grace Boeve (3), Kelly Peasley (3), Madeline Worst (3), Aubrey Buckingham (2), Emily Tuttle (2), Miranda Buchner (1), and Claire Tuttle (1). Madeline Worst also lead the team with 5 assists. The team also had 10 steals during the game. Annalise Patsiavos was able to block 6 shots on goal and had 2 assists. Winning this game put the Eagles in the District Championship game against West Ottawa Panthers.
Again the Eagles were able to play both a very strong offensive and defensive game to lead 14-0 after half, so again each quarter in the second half of the game was shortened play. Alaina Lubbers lead the team in a very strong game with 9 goals, 5 steals, 3 assists and 6 drawn exclusions. The goalies, Analise Patsiavos and Emma Lamers, also played a very accurate game with Analise with 9 blocks and Emma with 7 blocks on goal. Other goals were scored by Grace Boeve (3), Claire Tuttle (2), Emily Tuttle (2), Madeline Worst (2), and Maddy Jones (1). The strong offensive Eagles were able to draw 14 exclusions on the WO team leaving 1 WO player benched after the 1st quarter, 1 benched after the 3rd quarter and 1 player rolled in the 4th quarter. The Eagles also finished this game with a score of 20-2.
The Eagles advance to the next post-season Regional Tournament in East Grand Rapids where they will play Forest Hills on Friday evening at 6:30 PM. The winner of this game will advance to the State Championships that will be held in Hudsonville on June 2nd and 3rd.
