Boys Junior Varsity Lacrosse, Boys Varsity Lacrosse · Boy’s Lacrosse Falls to Zeeland in Regional Action

After falling behind early 2-0, the Eagles made a push to take a 5-2 lead into halftime with Senior defenseman Ben Bickford launching a shot from 30 yards out, for his first goal since his freshman season, just before half.  Unfortunately, that was all they could muster and suffered a 7-5 defeat and exit from the regional playoffs, ending a strong run for the team.  Opening the scoring for the Eagles was Senior Conner Heidema and Senior Jack Berry, which tied the game 2-2.  The Eagles kept the offense going with a goal from Senior Colton Warren and Sophomore Jon Bickford to take a 4-2 lead, before Senior defenseman Ben Bickford riffled a shot from the way-out past the Zeeland goalie to take a 5-2 lead going into halftime.  The Eagle offense struggled in the second half, while the Zeeland offense came to life with 5 unanswered goals ending the Eagles season.  Seniors Charlie Hinken and Conner Heidema also each had an assist in the game.  Senior Goalie Gerrit Kurtycz finished the night saving 14 of 21 shots.

The Eagles season was a great success:  Tier 2 Conference Champs and a 12-6 record and ranked 26th in the state.  All of the 6 losses came at the hands of topped ranked teams (Hartland #2, Rockford #7, Vicksburg #11, Zeeland #12, Brighton #13 and Midland #22).  The Eagles will move to Tier 1 next year and have a lot to look forward to with some very strong returning Juniors, Sophomores and some great young talent that will be counted on contribute in 2018.
