Eagles News · Girl’s Swim and Dive Finish Top 10 in State

Hudsonville Varsity Swim & Dive qualified 4 individuals: Taylor DeHommel, Natalie Fisher, Kelly Peasley, and Claire Tuttle, along with 3 Relays to compete at the 2018 MHSAA Girls D1 Swim and Dive Championships. The top placing west-side teams included Rockford, placing 4th, Hudsonville, placing 9th, Grand Haven, placing 10th, and Holland West Ottawa, placing 13th. Hudsonville was ranked 10th going into the meet, sharing the ranking spot with Grand Haven and Holland West Ottawa.
Claire Tuttle, Hudsonville High School junior, had an amazing weekend at Eastern Michigan University.  Claire was the top seed entering the meet in the 100 yard Breaststroke and the reigning State Champion in this event.  After a season best preliminary swim of 1:01.94, she entered finals as the first seed and selected “Rockstar” by Hannah Montana as the walk-out song. The finals session proved to be Claire’s personal best performance, winning the 100 breast in a time of 1:01.24 which is 2nd for Michigan High School State Meet All-Time Performer list. With this swim she also earned her 7th All-American Award.
Both the 200 Medley Relay Team and 200 Freestyle Relay Teams placed in the top 8 for All-State Athlete recognition. The 200 Medley Team of Kelly, Claire, Natalie, and Lauren Robertson placed 6th with a season best time of 1:46.53 for an All-American Consideration Qualifying time. Claire had the fastest 50 Breaststroke split of all the athletes in the event with a 27.57. The 200 Freestyle relay team of Claire, Kelly, Natalie, and Sydney Kline placed 4th with a season best time of 1:36.43 for an All-American Consideration Qualifying time.
Other point earners included:
  • Taylor placing 14th in the 1 meter diving
  • Kelly placing 11th in the 50 Freestyle & 12th in the 100 Freestyle events
  • Claire placing 4th in the 100 Freestyle, including a personal best and an All-American Consideration time in prelims of 50.91
The 2018/2019 Season proved to be successful for this team as they earned new Hudsonville Varsity Records, new pool records (at Hudsonville and other pools), taking first at the OK RED Conference in 5 events, Automatic and Consideration All-American times, All-State placing relays, and an individual State Champion.
