On a beautiful Wednesday night in Grandville the Eagles fought a battle against a good Rams team, but in the end couldn’t pull out the upset win and ended their season. The Rams came out strong right a way with a couple quick goals but the Eagles responded and tied the game at two in the first quarter. Rockford then rolled off 5 unanswered goals to take a 7-2 lead into halftime. Not giving up, the Eagles came out strong and battled back with three goals to cut the Rams lead to 7-5 in the 3rd period. The fourth period was a battle with the teams trading goals, but ultimately the Rams prevailed with a 12-7 victory to win the Regional championship.
Leading the scoring for the Eagles were Senior attackman Jon Bickford and Senior middie Justin Rappuhn each with 3 goals and Rappuhn adding two assists as well. Junior middie Cam Richards tossed in a goal to round out the scoring for the Eagles. With the hat trick Bickford finished his high school career as the all time leading scorer in Hudsonville history.
The defense was very strong as well lead by Junior goalie Josh Millenbach who stopped 17 of 29 shots for a 58% save percentage. The trio of D poles lead by Senior Blake Tuttle, Juniors Cole Buiskool and Johnny Miller harassed the Rams attack all night to help keep the Eagles in the game.
The Eagles finish the season 7-13 against one of the most difficult schedules in Michigan. Thanks to everyone that came out to support the Eagles and the growing program and best of luck to the Eagles next season. See you in the spring 2020.
