Eagles News · Girl’s Swim and Dive Defeats Jenison in First Swim Meet of the Year

The Eagles started the season with a huge first swim in the 200 Medley Relay. The Relay Team of Kayla Mol (Sophomore), Claire Tuttle (Senior), Natalie Fisher (Senior) and Sydney Kline (Sophomore) finished with a time of 1:51.91 taking 1st place with a state qualifying time. The Wildcats followed over 6 seconds behind scoring in 2nd and 3rd places.
In the next event, 200 Freestyle, McKenna Brink (Senior) pushed to out-touch Jenison by .09 to grab a first place for the Eagles in the second event. Other Eagles scoring in this event include: Alyson Widner (Freshman – 4th), Kaylee Stray (Senior – 5th), Bella Bolhuis (Senior – 6th).
The Eagles continued the first place streak with Claire taking the 200 IM gold in a state qualifying time of 2:07.39 outpacing the competition by a whopping 15 seconds. Other points earned for Hudsonville by: Jenna Kuiper (Sophomore – 4th), Sofia Biriouk (Junior – 7th), Makalynn VanEerden (Freshman-8th).
The splash and dash was a close race with the Eagles scoring 2nd (Lauren Robertson-Senior), 3rd (Sydney Kline-Sophomore), and 4th(Rachel Maki-Junior) in the 50 Freestyle.
The Eagles had an impressive showing in diving with Taylor DeHommel (Senior) taking first and other top point earners including Olivia Pell (Freshman) and Avery Koperski (Sophomore).
Natalie Fisher started the second half of the meet taking 1st place for Hudsonville in the 100 Butterfly. Hudsonville also earned point in the event by Kayla-3rd, Lauren-4th, and Elise Tuttle (Freshman)-7th.
Claire took her 2nd individual gold and state qualifying time in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 51.99. Rachel followed taking 2nd (57.96), Bella in 4th (1:00.67) and Chela Reiss (Junior) in 5th.
In the 500 Freestyle McKenna placed 2nd, Kaylee placed 4th, Marley placed 7th, and Stella Biriouk (Freshman) placed 8th.
The 200 Freestyle relay team of Claire, Sydney, Lauren, and Rachel took 1st for the Eagles. Claire, in the lead-off leg, grabbed a time of 23.97 which gave her another state qualifying time.
Natalie scored in the 100 Backstroke by placing 2nd for the Eagles. Kayla placed 5th, Alyson placed 6th, and Avery Morren (Freshman) placed 7th.
Hudsonville’s Sydney placed 2nd in the 100 Breaststroke with a personal best time. Following Sydney’s finish included Jenna (3rd), Chela (4th), and Sofia (6th).
To finish the meet the Eagles scored 2 relays in the 400 Freestyle. On the 2nd place relay: Rachel, McKenna, Kaylee, and Natalie and the 3rd place relay: Alyson, Kayla, Bella, and Evin Verbrugge (Freshman).
The Eagles will compete next on Thursday, September 5th at the Holland Aquatic Center.
