Eagles News · Girl’s Cross Country Perform Well at Portage


The Hudsonville girl’s cross country team continues to improve as the varsity placed 15 th out of 37 teams at the largest xc meet in Michigan, Portage Invitational. The JV team placed 9th out of 26 teams. Over half the Eagle girls that raced had lifetime PR’s (personal records). Notable performances by Elise Conkel dropping time and narrowly missing her varsity letter by 3
seconds 21:02.92, Alyssa Bird had the biggest drop in time by 1:30!! 25:30 to 24:00. Sarah Spears had a breakthrough race busting out of the 21’s and into the 20’s! Other PR’s by Paige Glass, and Emma Everts were outstanding, just to name a few. The team is preparing for the upcoming make up meet at East Kentwood on Wednesday, October 9 th and then the Kent County/Ottawa County meet on Saturday October 12 th . Looking ahead, the team’s goal this season has been to qualify for the state meet. To Do this the team must place top 3 at the Regional meet. Currently the eagles are in the mix for
that coveted 3 rd place with 4 other teams. Only a few points separate Jenison, Hudsonville, Byron Center and Portage Central.
