The Hudsonville Boys Water Polo team came out on top at the State Championship Tournament this past weekend at East Lansing High School. They defeated Dexter in the championship game 10-7. The win finished off a season in which the team went undefeated, with a record of 46-0.
The weekend began with a 16-1 victory over Ann Arbor Skyline. The AAS Eagles came out in an interesting defensive shape and gave Hudsonville some issues. Once your Hudsonville Eagles figured it out, it was smooth sailing. In the semifinals, Hudsonville defeated Ann Arbor Pioneer 21-2. It was a more straight-forward game and the Eagles were victorious leading them to the championship game. In the championship game, Hudsonville got off to a fast start, leading 5-0 after the first quarter. Dexter followed in the 2nd quarter with a 4-0 run, which made the score 5-4 at halftime. Hudsonville was able to pull away in the 2nd half and win the school’s first State title in Boys Water Polo.
Senior Wes Obetts was named Honorable Mention All Tournament, Junior Eli Boonstra and Senior Patrick Tutt were named 2nd Team All Tournament, and Seniors Chandler Jones and Ian Worst named to 1st Team All Tournament. Worst was named Tournament MVP.
