Hudsonville faced off against Forest Hills Central in their first game of the Michigan Public High School Showcase in Chelsea Friday afternoon, and came up short losing 6-5. Austin Terpstra scored in the 1st assisted by Brendan Schaltz. Jack Beltz would give the Eagles the lead with assists from Blake Tuttle and Terpstra. However the lead would not last as FHC would score the next three goals in a four minute span to go up 4-2. The 3rd period would start with FHC scoring seven seconds in and then five minutes later going up 6-2, but the Eagles would not back down. During a 5 on 3 advantage the Eagles would get a power play goal from Thadd Waalkes assisted by Will Ford, and then a second power play goal 24 seconds later by Schaltz, assisted by Cy Doerr and Quinten DeMyer to pull within 2 at 6-4. As time was winding down the Eagles would pull their goalie and pull within one goal to make the game 6-5 with a goal from Waalkes assisted by Terpstra and Beltz. The Eagles would again pull their goalie for the extra attacker and have their chances but just missed on several opportunities as the final buzzer went. Cam Griep was in net for the Eagles and faced 39 shots with some key saves in the effort. The Eagles will face Escanaba on Saturday at 930:AM in Chelsea for their second game of the showcase.
