After a 381 day wait due to COVID, this was one of the most anticipated match ups in the area. The Eagles and the Pioneers were slated to face off last year when the covid pandemic struck on the day of the Regional finals a year ago and shut everything down. Coming into the game the Eagles were 19-1 on the season with their lone loss coming to the Pioneers in the third game of the season. The Eagles lost that match up 49-73. Since that game, the Eagles have won 17 straight and were playing some of their best basketball of the year heading into the Regional Final match up.
The Eagles got off to a great start hitting 3 threes in the first quarter and locking down on defense to take a 16-4 lead. The Pioneers have too much talent to keep down long and they battled back in the 2nd quarter to cut the deficit to 1 before the Eagles scored the last 2 baskets of the quarter to take a 24-18 at the half. In the 3rd Quarter the Pioneers continued to chip away at the lead and by the end of the 3rd quarter the Eagles led by just 2 points. That would be as close as it would get as the Eagles never lost the lead and were very strong from the free throw line hitting 14 for 18 in the 4th quarter. The Eagles were led by Eva Joldersma who finished with 17 points and Alaina Diaz who finished with 16 point.
The Eagles captured their 2nd Regional Championship in the schools history!
