After taking runner-up the last few years, the Lady Eagles finally captured 1st place, besting 14 other schools, at the Ken Bell Invitational held at Traverse City Central High School. Here is a rundown…
They arrived at 10:30 AM to find out the weather was putting a damper on the start of the meet. After a 2 hour delay and a rock-paper-scissors tourney in the gym, the Lady Eagles were ready to compete…and compete they did.
*Alexa Hartman had a lifetime PR in the 100 and ran to a 2nd place finish. She also picked up a 4th place in the 200
*In the 400, Nikki Daggy finally broke the 1:05 barrier and picked up 7th place
*The Lady Eagles went an impressive 1-2 in the 800 (Helder, Gray)
*In the 1600 Helder stole the show with a time of 4:58.12. She was over 28 seconds ahead of 2nd place and less than 1 second off the school record
*Elaina Nibbelink picked up a point with an 8th place finish in the 3200
*3rd and 5th were the places in the 100 Hurdles (Mack, Ostapowicz)
*in the 300 Hurdles Ostapowicz ran to 2nd while Sam Hinken PR’d from an earlier heat to snag 3rd place overall
*The 4×100 team of Mandryk, Hartman, Stankiewicz, and Lowry pulled off a 4th place finish
*The 4×200 team of Mandryk, Hartman, Derrer, and Lowry sprinted to 2nd
*The 4×400 team captured first (Herrema, Gray, Daggy, Helder)
*The 4×800 team of Hasaley, Frank, Nibbelink, and Holzwarth picked up 6th place
*Kutzli threw to 3rd in the Discus
*Herrema jumped to 1st in both the High Jump and Long Jump
*And in the Pole Vault, Ostapowicz leaped to 1st and Avery Bolhuis grabbed 7th
