Dominant Pitching, Big First Inning Lead Freshman Eagles to Win

By Ryan Szlachcic | Mar 25, 2026 10:30 PM

The freshman Eagles opened their season in strong fashion on Wednesday, earning a 4-0 victory in a game shortened to five innings due to fading daylight. The Eagles wasted no time getting on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Carson Weemhoff set the tone after being hit by a pitch, and Anderson Visser followed with a double down the right field line to bring him home. Courtesy runner Ty Dunbar later scored on a wild pitch after Dakari Grays worked a walk. The offense kept rolling as James Brock delivered an RBI single to center, and after advancing on a sacrifice bunt by Skyler Slotman and a pair of wild pitches, Brock came around to score to cap off a four-run inning. That early support was more than enough for the Eagles’ pitching staff, which was dominant from start to finish. Skyler Slotman got the start on the mound and set the tone, tossing three scoreless innings while allowing just two hits, striking out four, and issuing no walks. Finnegan Ralya and Easton Morton each added a shutout inning in relief, with Morton closing the game by striking out the final two hitters. Offensively, Brock led the way with a perfect 2-for-2 performance at the plate, while both he and Visser drove in runs. Defensively, the Eagles were just as sharp, playing a clean game without committing an error. Visser led the team in the field with seven putouts. The Eagles will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup on Saturday at Caledonia.
