By Ryan Szlachcic | Apr 24, 2026 12:33 AM

The Hudsonville Freshman Eagles capped off an impressive series with a commanding 12-1 victory over Grandville, completing the sweep behind timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and dominant pitching. Hudsonville wasted no time getting on the board in the top of the first. With two outs, Skyler Slotman started the rally with a single, followed by Dakri Grays reaching with a base hit. Alex McCoy then came through with another single to plate the game’s first run and give the Eagles an early 1-0 lead. Grandville answered in the bottom of the second to even the score at 1-1, but the Eagles quickly regained control. The tie was broken in the top of the fourth with a strong all-around inning. Easton Morton led things off with a single, and Ryan Floriana followed with an RBI knock to score him. The Eagles continued to apply pressure as Landon Lameris (reaching on a fielder’s choice) and Tyler Reibel (courtesy running for Jamison Hugo, who was hit by a pitch) both came around to score on a wild pitch and an error, stretching the lead to 4-1. Hudsonville delivered the knockout blow in the fifth. Ty Dunbar was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and Slotman drove him in with a double. After Grays reached on an error, Morton executed a perfectly timed double suicide squeeze, bringing home both runners in one of the most exciting plays of the day. The Eagles added another run in the inning to continue building their lead. Hudsonville tacked on four more runs in the seventh to put the game well out of reach, showcasing their depth and relentless offensive approach. On the mound, Landon Meduna got the start, allowing one run on three hits over two innings while striking out three. Micah McPhaul was dominant in relief, shutting the door with four scoreless innings. The right-hander allowed just one hit, struck out six, and walked one—all while needing only 46 pitches in an efficient and impressive outing. The Eagles racked up 13 hits in the win, with Slotman, Morton, McCoy, Jamison Hugo, and Floriana each collecting two hits. Morton and Hugo both drove in two runs to lead the offense. Hudsonville also stayed aggressive on the basepaths, swiping four bases, and played clean defense with no errors. Behind the plate, Hugo led the way with nine putouts. With the sweep secured, Hudsonville now turns its focus to a home doubleheader against Unity Christian on Friday, with first pitch set for 4:00 PM.
