Workman Shines Behind the Plate and at Bat as Freshman Eagles Win 11th Straight

By Ryan Szlachcic | May 1, 2026 11:32 PM

The Hudsonville Freshman Eagles kept their streak rolling, defeating Grand Rapids Christian 8-0 in game two of Friday’s doubleheader to secure their 11th straight win. Gavin Workman led the way with a standout all-around performance. He went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs—singling in the first and third innings and adding a double in the fourth—while also delivering a strong game behind the plate defensively. Hudsonville got on the board early in the first inning. Dakari Grays sparked things with an RBI double to center, and Workman followed with a run-scoring single to make it 2-0. The Eagles added another run in the second, taking advantage of a Christian error, and continued to build in the third. Workman delivered again with an RBI single down the left field line, and another defensive miscue by Christian allowed an additional run to score. On the mound, Landon Meduna set the tone with three scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out five. Ryan Floriana followed with two shutout innings in relief, giving up just one hit and striking out three to close the door. Hudsonville stayed aggressive on the basepaths, swiping seven bases, with Grays and Ty Dunbar each collecting multiple steals. The Eagles also played clean, error-free defense to complete another strong team performance. With the sweep, Hudsonville heads into a big week full of opportunities—traveling to East Grand Rapids for a doubleheader Monday, hosting Rockford on Wednesday, and competing in the Eagles Freshman Invite tournament on Saturday—riding plenty of momentum.
