Freshman Eagles Walk it Off in Game Two of Double Header

By Ryan Szlachcic | May 7, 2026 12:02 AM

The Hudsonville Freshman Eagles capped off an exciting doubleheader sweep Wednesday night, walking off Rockford 3-2 in a tightly contested battle. With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Carson Weemhoff came through in the clutch once again, lining a walk-off single to bring home the winning run and send the Eagles pouring out of the dugout. The game was a pitcher’s duel throughout, with both teams struggling to push runs across. Rockford struck first in the third inning on a fielder’s choice to take a 1-0 lead. Hudsonville answered in the bottom half. Easton Morton grounded into a double play, but the productive out allowed the tying run to score and even the game at 1-1. The Eagles grabbed their first lead in the fourth inning when Kaden Condon ripped a single to bring home a run and make it 2-1. Rockford threatened late and tied the game in the fifth, but Hudsonville responded immediately in the bottom half. After the Eagles put runners on, Weemhoff stepped up and delivered the game-winning hit to cap another comeback victory. At the plate, Hudsonville piled up 10 hits. Weemhoff led the way with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, while Morton and Ty Dunbar each added multiple hits. Dunbar continued his strong day with a double and a single, consistently creating pressure offensively. On the mound, Trenton Ratuszny gave the Eagles another solid start, allowing just one unearned run over 3.2 innings while striking out one. One of the biggest moments of the game came when Landon Meduna entered in relief and worked out of a huge jam to keep the game within reach and swing momentum back toward Hudsonville. With the sweep, Hudsonville continues its incredible run and now turns its attention to Saturday’s Freshman Eagle Invite, where they’ll open tournament play against Forest Hills Central.
