The Hudsonville Freshman Eagles opened the Freshman Eagle Invitational with a strong 9-4 win over Forest Hills Central, earning a spot in the championship game later Saturday. Easton Morton had a huge day at the plate, collecting three hits in four at-bats. Morton doubled in the first inning, singled in the second, and added another hit in the fifth to help power the Eagles’ offense. Forest Hills Central struck first in the top of the opening inning after an error allowed a run to score, but Hudsonville answered immediately. Morton ripped a double to start the response, and Kaden Condon came through with a clutch RBI single down the left field line on an 0-2 count to tie the game at 1-1. The Eagles broke things open in the second inning, taking a 5-1 lead with a balanced offensive attack. Alex McCoy worked a walk to start the rally, Eli Feenstra moved runners over with a sacrifice bunt, and Jamison Hugo, Morton, and Condon all delivered RBI singles during the inning. Forest Hills Central added a run in the third to make it 5-2, but Hudsonville answered again. McCoy was hit by a pitch and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Feenstra to keep momentum firmly with the Eagles. Hudsonville continued to add on late, scoring once in the fourth and twice in the fifth to pull away. On the mound, Feenstra gave the Eagles another steady outing, allowing just two runs—both unearned—over five innings while striking out four and walking none. Finnegan Rayla came on in relief and added a strikeout to help close things out. The Eagles finished with 14 hits in the win. Morton and Condon led the charge with three hits apiece, while Condon drove in three runs from the middle of the lineup. Hugo also added two hits in a balanced offensive performance. Hudsonville stayed aggressive on the basepaths all game, swiping seven stolen bases and continuing to pressure the defense. With the win, the Eagles advanced to the championship game of the Freshman Eagle Invitational, where they would take on Grand Ledge after their win over Mona Shores.
