The Hudsonville Freshman Eagles saved their best for last Saturday, exploding for 11 runs in the third inning to run away with a 16-0 win over previously unbeaten Grand Ledge in the championship game of the Freshman Eagle Invitational. The Comets entered the title game at 10-0, setting up a highly anticipated showdown between two hot teams, but the Eagles quickly took control and never looked back. Hudsonville got on the board in the second inning after aggressive pressure forced a Grand Ledge error, giving the Eagles an early 1-0 lead. Then came the massive third inning. The Eagles sent wave after wave of hitters to the plate, putting together an 11-run explosion fueled by clutch hitting, aggressive baserunning, and constant pressure. Tyler Reibel started the scoring with a fielder’s choice RBI, Gavin Workman followed with a two-run single, and Dakari Grays added another two-run knock. Brady Buchanan continued the rally with an RBI single, while multiple Grand Ledge errors allowed additional runs to score. Reibel later added an RBI single of his own, and Kaden Condon capped the inning with a two-run groundout as Hudsonville completely broke the game open. Hudsonville continued adding on late to finish off the statement victory and secure the tournament championship. On the mound, Condon was outstanding against the previously undefeated Comets lineup. The right-hander tossed four shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out six and walking none. He stayed in control from the first pitch and never allowed Grand Ledge to generate momentum. Condon also led the offense with three RBIs, continuing his strong tournament performance from the middle of the order. Reibel set the tone at the top of the lineup with two hits, while Workman, Grays, and Buchanan all delivered key run-scoring hits during the decisive third inning. Defensively, the Eagles were once again flawless, not committing a single error. Andreson Visser anchored the defense with six chances in the field. The championship victory capped an impressive weekend for Hudsonville and continued the momentum of one of the hottest teams around as the Eagles now turn their attention back to OK Red play with a big doubleheader against Rockford on Tuesday.
