Game One The Hudsonville Freshman Eagles ran into a tough Rockford lineup in game one Tuesday, falling 16-2 in the opening game of the doubleheader. Rockford jumped out early in the first inning and never gave the Eagles a chance to settle in, using aggressive baserunning and consistent pressure throughout the game. Hudsonville pitchers struggled to get ahead in counts, and Rockford took advantage by creating havoc on the bases all afternoon. Despite the loss, Hudsonville continued to battle at the plate. Easton Morton, Gavin Workman, and Carson Weemhoff each collected a hit, while Dakari Grays and Weemhoff each drove in a run for the Eagles. Ryan Floriana provided a bright spot out of the bullpen, battling hard over 2.2 innings of relief and helping stabilize things late in the game. Game Two Hudsonville looked ready to bounce back early in game two but ultimately fell 12-4 as Rockford completed the doubleheader sweep. Rockford opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first, but the Eagles answered immediately in the bottom half. Kaden Condon ripped a triple to right field to bring home a run, and Easton Morton followed with an RBI groundout to give Hudsonville a 2-1 lead. The momentum quickly shifted in the second inning when Rockford erupted for five runs on five hits to take control of the game. A costly error in the inning allowed two additional runs to score and proved to be one of the biggest turning points of the game. Finnegan Rayla battled on the mound for the Eagles, and while he limited strikeouts, defensive miscues made innings difficult throughout the game. Offensively, Carson Weemhoff, Landon Meduna, and Condon each recorded a hit, while Morton, Meduna, and Condon all drove in runs for Hudsonville. With the season series now tied 2-2, the Eagles and Rams will meet again Thursday in a decisive matchup to determine the winner of the series.
