Hudsonville and Rockford split a hard-fought doubleheader on Tuesday, with the Eagles dominating game one before falling in extra innings in game two. In the opener, Hudsonville rolled to a 13-3 mercy-rule win in five innings behind a complete game from Jack Arens. Arens struck out five while allowing just three earned runs and also helped lead the offense with two hits, including a two-run home run. The Eagles’ bats stayed hot all game long. Kayden Rodriguez, Micah McPhaul, Graham Rosema, and James Brock each collected two hits, while Luke Uhlig and Aiden Straus added one apiece. RBIs came from Uhlig, two from Rodriguez, one from Straus, two from Arens, one from McPhaul, three from Brock, and one from Brady Miller. Hudsonville also got strong defensive plays throughout the game from Miller, Rodriguez, and Uhlig to help seal the mercy victory. Game two told a much different story as Rockford escaped with a 9-6 extra-inning win. The Rams jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second inning, but Hudsonville battled back throughout the night to eventually force extras. The Eagles used five pitchers in the game, with Luke Uhlig, Skyler Slotman, Luke Pennington, Jacob Clifton, and Kayden Rodriguez combining for seven strikeouts. Offensively, Hudsonville continued to swing it well. Rodriguez had a hit, Uhlig added two, Straus had one, Arens finished with two, McPhaul collected two along with three RBIs, James Brock had one hit, and Anderson Visser chipped in two hits of his own. Despite the loss, Hudsonville showed plenty of fight battling all the way back to force extra innings. The series now shifts to Rockford on Thursday, where the Eagles and Rams will meet again with the series on the line.
