Timely hitting, outstanding defense, and a dominant pitching performance helped the Hudsonville Freshman Eagles secure the season series over Rockford with a 3-0 win Thursday evening. Kaden Condon was the star of the night on the mound, tossing a complete game shutout against a tough Rockford lineup. Condon worked efficiently all game long, allowing very little hard contact while trusting the defense behind him. The Eagles backed him up with clean defense throughout the night as he finished the shutout with two strikeouts. Hudsonville broke through in the top of the third inning. After Condon worked a tough two-out walk, Gavin Workman came through with a clutch triple to bring home the game’s first run and give the Eagles an early spark. The Eagles added another run in the fourth after Andreson Visser singled and Landon Meduna delivered a big two-out double to extend the lead to 2-0. Hudsonville added an insurance run in the seventh with strong situational baseball. Easton Morton led off with a single, Visser moved him over with a sacrifice bunt, and a wild pitch pushed Morton to third. Workman then did his job perfectly, hitting a ground ball to the right side to score Morton and make it 3-0. Workman led the offense with two RBIs, continuing to deliver from the middle of the lineup. Buchanan, Workman, Carson Weemhoff, Meduna, Visser, and Tyler Reibel each recorded a hit in the balanced offensive effort. Defensively, the Eagles were outstanding from start to finish. The outfield trio of Brady Buchanan, Eli Feenstra, and Carson Weemhoff covered huge ground and combined for 11 putouts, while Reibel added five putouts at second base. Hudsonville also turned a double play to help preserve the shutout. With the win, the Eagles take the five-game season series over Rockford 3-2 and continue building momentum heading into Friday’s matchup at Caledonia.
