Big Fifth Inning Pushes Freshman Eagles Past Caledonia

By Ryan Szlachcic | May 15, 2026 7:26 PM

The Hudsonville Freshman Eagles used another explosive late inning Friday night, scoring seven runs in the fifth to pull away from Caledonia for a 10-2 victory. Hudsonville got on the board early in the first inning. Easton Morton lifted a sacrifice fly to score the game’s first run, and Carson Weemhoff followed with an RBI single down the left field line to give the Eagles a quick 2-0 lead. The Eagles added another run in the third after Eli Feenstra worked a walk and later came around to score, continuing Hudsonville’s patient approach at the plate. Then came the decisive fifth inning. Jamison Hugo started the rally with a two-run double, Ty Dunbar followed with a two-run single, and Morton delivered another clutch hit with a two-run single of his own. Kaden Condon capped the inning with an RBI single as the Eagles broke the game wide open. Dakari Grays delivered another strong outing on the mound, going five innings while allowing just one run on five hits. The right-hander struck out four and walked two, keeping Caledonia from ever putting together a big inning. Landon Meduna was outstanding in relief, striking out five over two innings while allowing just one hit and one unearned run to close things out. Behind the plate, Jamison Hugo turned in one of his best defensive performances of the season, recording nine putouts and doing a great job handling the pitching staff throughout the game. Offensively, Hudsonville totaled nine hits, with Morton leading the way with three hits and multiple RBIs. Hugo and Dunbar each drove in two runs, while Condon added two hits and another RBI. The Eagles were also relentless on the bases, stealing 11 bases in the game. Weemhoff, Feenstra, and Dunbar each swiped multiple bags as Hudsonville continued to pressure Caledonia defensively. Defensively, the Eagles continued their recent stretch of clean baseball with another strong effort in the field. With the win, Hudsonville keeps its momentum rolling heading into Monday’s home doubleheader against Forest Hills Central.
