Hudsonville JV baseball wrapped up a three-game sweep of East Kentwood on Wednesday with another strong all-around performance, controlling the game from the mound and doing enough offensively to secure the win. The story of the night was Hudsonville’s pitching staff. Jacob Clifton got the start and was dominant through four innings, allowing just one hit while striking out nine. Clifton attacked the zone all game long and kept East Kentwood off balance from the first inning. Whenever the Falcons looked like they might put something together, Clifton was able to shut it down quickly. Luke Pennington came on in relief and kept the momentum going. Pennington threw the final three innings, striking out five and continuing to limit East Kentwood offensively. Between the two pitchers, Hudsonville allowed very little all game as East Kentwood struggled to get anything going at the plate. Offensively, the Eagles once again had contributions throughout the lineup. Hits came from Luke Uhlig, Micah McPhaul, Aiden Straus, James Brock, Skyler Slotman, and Jacob Clifton. RBIs came from Uhlig and Straus as Hudsonville was able to take advantage of scoring opportunities and stay in control throughout the game. The sweep capped off a strong week for the Eagles, who played consistently well in all three games against East Kentwood. Hudsonville got quality pitching throughout the series, timely hitting, and solid defense to complete the three-game sweep. Hudsonville will close out the season with a doubleheader against Jenison on Friday.
