The Hudsonville Freshman Eagles opened Friday’s doubleheader at Jenison with a strong 6-0 win behind a complete team effort and another dominant pitching performance. Easton Morton was locked in all afternoon at the plate, collecting four hits in four at-bats. Morton singled in the first, third, fourth, and fifth innings, consistently setting the tone offensively for the Eagles. Hudsonville broke the game open in the third inning with a four-run rally. Carson Weemhoff delivered the biggest hit of the inning with a two-run single, later coming around to score himself after an aggressive tag-up play. Jamison Hugo added another RBI single as the Eagles took control. Landon Meduna earned praise for his gritty effort on the mound. After working through a long first inning, the right-hander settled in and competed like a bulldog the rest of the game. Meduna tossed five shutout innings, allowing five hits while striking out seven and walking none. Once he found his rhythm, Jenison struggled to generate much offense against him. The Eagles totaled nine hits in the win. Along with Morton’s huge day, Brady Buchanan and Weemhoff each drove in two runs to help power the offense. Defensively, Hudsonville continued its recent stretch of clean baseball, not committing a single error in the field. Hugo led the defensive effort behind the plate, handling the pitching staff well and recording six chances defensively. The win gave the Eagles a strong start to the doubleheader as they looked to finish the season on a high note.
