The Hudsonville Freshman Eagles wrapped up their season Friday night in a hard-fought battle, falling to Jenison 4-3 on a walk-off in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the game tied at three, Jenison delivered the final blow on a walk-off single to end a competitive back-and-forth matchup between two strong teams. Hudsonville actually outhit Jenison seven to five and battled throughout the night, continuing to show the toughness and resiliency that defined the season. The Eagles jumped out early in the top of the first inning. Carson Weemhoff ripped an RBI double to get Hudsonville on the board, and aggressive pressure forced a Jenison error that brought home two more runs to give the Eagles a quick 3-0 lead. Jenison chipped away and tied the game in the second inning, but Hudsonville continued to fight inning after inning and had opportunities late to regain the lead. Kaden Condon started on the mound for the Eagles and competed hard over five innings, allowing five hits and four runs, three earned, while striking out three. Weemhoff continued his strong finish to the season at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Condon also added two hits in the loss. Tyler Reibel anchored the defense with four chances in the field as the Eagles once again played fundamentally solid baseball. Even though the final game ended in heartbreak, the boys fought until the very last out and capped off an incredible season together. The Hudsonville Freshman Eagles finish the year 24-4, growing tremendously throughout the season and learning how to play great team baseball. The coaching staff had so much fun working with this group of young men and truly appreciated their love for the game, their competitiveness, and the way they cared for one another all season long.
