Hudsonville Eagles Capture Northview Invitational Championship

Grand Rapids, Mich. — The Hudsonville Eagles got off to a strong start in the diving competition, with two impressive performances in the girls 1-meter event. Senior Emmie Plaggemeyer finished fifth with 137.85 points, while freshman Brielle Torenga placed sixth with 135.65. Hudsonville continued its strong showing in the swimming events, collecting several individual and top relay perfomances along with numerous top-five finishes. Swim events began with quality finishes in the 200 yard medley relay with Hudsonville A relay team of Makenzie Milward, Taylor Vaiana, Emmerson Roberts and Ella VanEerden finished third in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:58.93. The Eagles' B relay of Klara Wimpee, Alexa Kramer, Grace Reinke and Audrey Kucek added a fifth-place finish in 2:06.51. Hudsonville junior Bri Butler captured the 100-yard freestyle championship, winning in 55.21 seconds, which met the MHSAA Division 1 qualifying standard. Taylor Vaiana finished third in 57.84, while Makenzie Milward placed sixth in 59.88. The Eagles also had four additional swimmers post strong times in the event. Jaycee Clemens finished in 1:03.89, followed by Aubrey Bourdon in 1:04.01, Charlotte Skavnak in 1:06.14 and Bri Moelker in 1:07.31. Charlotte Germain added an individual championship for Hudsonville, winning the 100-yard individual medley in 1:00.20. Teammates Emmerson Roberts and Ella VanEerden also finished in the top five, placing fourth in 1:07.31 and fifth in 1:08.12, respectively. Kylee Holwerda added a solid performance in 1:15.56. Nora VanEerden captured the 50-yard freestyle championship in 25.55 seconds. Bailey Bakker finished fourth in 26.37, while Makenzie Milward placed sixth in 27.19. Hudsonville placed three swimmers in the top five of the 50-yard butterfly. Emmerson Roberts finished runner-up in 28.18 seconds, followed by Bri Butler in third at 28.30. Ella VanEerden finished fifth in 29.21. Germain picked up another individual victory in the 50-yard backstroke, winning in 28.44 seconds. Bailey Bakker finished sixth in 31.12, while Klara Wimpee placed eighth in 32.13. Nora VanEerden claimed her second individual championship of the meet, winning the 50-yard breaststroke in 32.20 seconds. Taylor Vaiana finished third in 33.91, while Alexa Kramer placed sixth in 34.31. Hudsonville's B relay of Audrey Kucek, Bri Moelker, Natalie Berry and Jaycee Clemens finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:55.11. The Eagles' C relay of Aubrey Bourdon, Faith VandeGutche, Jolie Bauer and Grace Reinke placed fifth in 1:59.14. The Eagles head to Forest Hills on Tuesday, August 25th for a Tri-Meet against Holland Christian and Forest Hills Central.
