HHS Girls Swim and Dive Beats WO in a OK RED Showdon

The Hudsonville girls’ swim and dive team improved to 3-0 in the OK Red Conference, powering past West Ottawa 174-116 on Thursday evening behind 33 season-best swims and a deep team performance that saw the Eagles place multiple athletes in nearly every event. Hudsonville opened the meet by, sweeping the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of Lydia Oosterbaan, Nora Van Eerden, Grace Van De Burg, and Brianne Butler touched first in 1:54.62, followed by the “B” relay of Klara Wimpee, Alexa Kramer, Taylor Vaiana, and Kayla Bolhuis at 2:03.33. Freshman Aaliyah Bukvic led a Hudsonville surge in the 200 freestyle, finishing second (2:10.76) ahead of teammates Katelyn Wiles (2:14.70), Jaycee Clemens (2:15.08), and Faith VandeGutche (2:20.25), who placed third through fifth respectively. Senior Kayla Bolhuis captured the 200 IM in 2:27.85, while Alaina Bolles (3rd) and Kylee Holwerda (7th) added key points. Hudsonville dominated the sprint and fly events. Sophomore Bailey Bakker sprinted to victory in the 50 freestyle with a 26.00(MISCA CUT), and Butler’s strong butterfly win (1:03.42) sparked a 1-2-3 sweep with Grace Van De Burg (1:04.41) and Taylor Vaiana (1:07.11) right behind. In diving, seniors Sydney Davidson and Avery Minder placed second and third respectively to extend Hudsonville’s advantage. The depth continued into the second half of the meet. Bukvic returned to take second in the 100 freestyle (1:00.76), just ahead of teammates Allison Kucek (1:02.30) and Natalie Berry (1:05.07). Distance standout Nora Van Eerden delivered another strong showing with a win in the 500 freestyle (5:34.09), followed closely by Wiles (3rd), VandeGutche (4th), and Reese Schmidt (6th) to complete a 1-3-4-6 finish for Hudsonville. In the sprint free relay, Hudsonville had a strong finish. The 200 freestyle relay of Bakker, Emmerson Roberts, Butler, and Vaiana earned first in 1:45.82, narrowly ahead of the “B” relay of Makenzie Milward, Van De Burg, Van Eerden, and Josie Horlings (1:46.06). Closing out the scoring events, freshman Klara Wimpee led a 1-2-3 Hudsonville sweep in the 100 backstroke (1:09.71), followed by Bolhuis (1:12.82) and Charlotte Skavnak (1:14.17). Hudsonville’s balance of senior leadership and emerging underclassmen depth proved decisive. The 174-116 victory keeps Hudsonville unbeaten in the OK RED dual-meet season, heading into next week’s conference matchup against the Bucs from Grand Haven.
